The breakwater of the Port Marina of Palamós is a very interesting area from an underwater point of view. Much of the life that we find in the area of Cala Margarita, is also found in the area of the breakwater.
Forming part of the Port Marina, the outer area of the breakwater is accessible from the Morro del Vedell beach. This is hidden in a corner, behind the western dock of the Marina de Palamós.
The beach is about 40 meters long and approximately 22 meters wide. It is made up of coarse-grained sand and stones.
The entrance slope to the sea is not very pronounced and the seabed is rocky.
It is usually little frequented.
It is delimited, on the right, by the port and, on the left, by a small artificial breakwater that reaches some islets known as Esculls d’en Roca.
La Cala Els Pots, which is located below, and where we also do the courses and the baptisms, has a small strip of very rocky beach.
Beach dive located next to the Port Marina.
This is a dive for beginners. Orientation is very easy because we will only have to follow the jetty located on the right hand side when starting the dive.
Its maximum depth is 18 meters, which makes it ideal for beginners and trainees.
Although we might think that due to its proximity to the beach, life will be scarce.
But we will be pleasantly surprised to find that life is abundant in its cracks and corners.
Yes, at the beginning the dive our course is towards the northwest following the coast, we will find Cala Margarita. This is a dive full of canyons and large rocks located at greater depths.
Along the jetty, we can also find a compass rose, sunk years ago exclusively for divers and kept in very good condition. , is found at a depth of about 18 meters.
